These baskets come from the Burma region on the border with northeastern India, woven by village women.
On average, 1-2 a day. It's hard, home-based work, but the result is spectacular! Each basket is a work of art, a real piece of candy, one more beautiful than the other and it's so hard to choose.
The base of the basket is made of bamboo, and the braid itself is made of colorful plastic strips. In Asia, these are market baskets for everything: they are filled with zucchini, sweet potatoes, lettuce, coconut, mango, everything needed for that day's cooking.
In Badia, these beautiful baskets are sold more as home decorations: you can put newspapers, toilet paper, a TV blanket in the living room, recyclable bottles, children's toys, and more...
Besides the fact that it takes a long time to produce them, there are also tribal wars in the region and their importation is becoming more difficult from time to time. In addition to the troubles in the Far East, we have the Houthis and the terrible war in the Middle East and shipments are delayed and becoming more expensive. In short, what I really wanted to say is that despite all these troubles, the ladders are finally here!
